Deceased Estate Lawyer Officer
Losing someone close is difficult enough without the weight of legal paperwork, property transfers, and financial uncertainty landing on your shoulders. As a local deceased estate lawyer for Officer families, Wollerman Shacklock Lawyers is here to lift that burden.
Principal Solicitor Patricia Sheedy (Trish), one of a small number of Accredited Property Law Specialists in Victoria, leads our team. We deliver clear, compassionate, and fixed-fee legal support to families across Officer, Cardinia Shire, and the wider Melbourne south-east growth corridor.
Supporting Officer Families Through a Difficult Time
Administering a deceased estate can feel daunting when you're juggling grief, school drop-offs, work, and the mortgage. That's why protecting the family home is often the most pressing concern we hear from clients.

Protecting Your Family Home and Financial Future
Your biggest worry is usually the simplest to name: "How do we keep paying the mortgage? Will legal fees drain what's left?" We understand. That's why we offer fixed-fee transparency, so you'll know what the work costs upfront, with no surprise bills.

Making the Paperwork Simple
If you've never administered an estate before, the volume of documents, deadlines, and court forms can be scary. Many of our clients are first-time executors who simply don't know where to start.
We keep it real. We explain every step in plain English, tell you exactly what we need from you, and handle the rest. From preparing the probate application to drafting transfer documents, we manage the legal legwork so you're not trying to decode Victorian estate law between school pickups and work meetings.
Your Local Deceased Estate Experts in Officer
When you're relatively new to the area, you may not have the established support network of older suburbs to lean on. We step into that gap as your trusted local legal advisor, offering the kind of steady, person-to-person service that makes a stressful time feel manageable.
Our office sits just a short drive from Officer Recreation Reserve, with on-site parking and wheelchair accessible access. We welcome appointments from individuals, families, executors, beneficiaries, and small business owners dealing with a loved one's estate.
Don't let legal delays add to your family's stress. [Speak with a local deceased estate lawyer] at (03) 9707 1155 or email admin@wslegal.com.au.

Frequently Asked Questions
-
A deceased estate lawyer helps the executor or next of kin administer a loved one's estate. That includes applying for [probate or Letters of Administration], transferring property titles, dealing with banks and superannuation funds, distributing assets to beneficiaries, and resolving any disputes that arise along the way.
-
Even with a clear Will, estates involving property almost always require legal help, particularly when a home is mortgaged or needs to be transferred or sold. A lawyer makes sure the process complies with Victorian law and that property transfers are correctly lodged. You also receive guidance each step of the way so you do not put yourself at risk of personal liability.
-
Timeframes vary based on the complexity of the estate, court processing times, and whether property is being sold or transferred. Straightforward matters can often be resolved in several months, while complex estates may take longer. We'll give you a realistic timeline at your first appointment.
-
We provide fixed-fee quotes upfront wherever possible, so you know what to expect. No hidden charges, no surprise invoices, just clear pricing from the start.
-
If the deceased was the sole registered owner, the property does not automatically transfer to anyone. The executor must obtain probate, then lodge a Transmission Application at Land Use Victoria to transfer title into the executor's name. The executor can then sell the property or transfer it to a beneficiary depending on the Will. We manage the full legal process from the probate application through to title transfer.
-
Yes, though overseas assets add complexity. An Australian probate grant may need to be resealed in the jurisdiction where the overseas assets are held, or a separate grant may be required in that country. We handle the Victorian side of the process and can connect with appropriate legal contacts overseas where needed so you're not navigating two different legal systems without guidance.
-
A family provision claim (under Part IV of the Administration and Probate Act) allows certain family members and dependants to challenge an estate distribution if they believe they haven't been adequately provided for. Eligible claimants include spouses, domestic partners, children (including adult children) and in some cases dependants. Claims must be brought within six months of probate being granted. We advise both executors and individuals considering making a claim.
